President Trump Facing Major Backlash For 'Selfish' Alabama vs. Georgia Game Decision

The President of the United States is expected to attend Saturday’s big-time Alabama vs. Georgia game in Tuscaloosa.

The game could be seriously impacted by weather. A tropical storm or hurricane, name Isaias, is developing in the Gulf of America. The storm could bring 110 MPH winds and devastating flooding to multiple states.

While the game features the No. 2 and No. 6 teams in the country, health and safety of everyone involved should be paramount. The storm could create a “nightmare” situation for fans, media, players and more.

“We’ve got potential for a hurricane making landfall in Mobile Bay,” James Spann told AL.com. “The Alabama-Georgia game, a presidential visit, College GameDay. You got the big (Zach Bryan) concert at Auburn. This is the National Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores this weekend, which is huge. I mean, you could not … it’s gonna be a nightmare.”

The game could actually be moved.

“The idea of moving the game, it’s on the table,” Spann said. “I’m saying it’s clearly on the table. It would be a nightmare for everybody involved. But if we do get a Category 1, Category 2 hurricane coming right up Mobile Bay [on] Saturday morning, I don’t know if you wouldn’t be playing that game in Tuscaloosa that you’ve got the chance of winds gusting to 50 miles an hour, torrential rain and the chance of isolated tornadoes on top of everything else.”

President Trump, 80, appears to be intent on attending the game. Some fans are claiming it’s a “selfish” decision, saying that any resources used on Trump’s visit should be used on storm efforts, instead.

“That he is planning to go to this football game and use up however many first-responder resources that requires, while the region gets set to get blasted by a hurricane, really does just say a lot,” college football writer Alex Kirshner shared on X.

“It’s selfish,” one fan added.

The President of the United States isn’t planning on changing his schedule, though.

“President Trump still plans to attend Saturday’s Georgia–Alabama game despite potential disruption from Tropical Storm Isaias, a White House official told FOS. The SEC and Alabama are monitoring the weather, but there are no current plans to move or postpone the game,” FOS reported.

Meanwhile, the storm continues to pick up steam.

“Tropical Depression Nine [Isaias] has developed in the southwestern Gulf and is forecast to intensify into a hurricane over the next 48 to 72 hours,” the National Weather Service office in Birmingham wrote on its website Tuesday afternoon. “Some model uncertainties still exist in regards to timing, intensity, and exact track, so refinements to this forecast are likely. Most impacts to Central Alabama will be felt in the form of gusty winds and steady rainfall Friday into Saturday. Continue to check the latest forecasts from official sources. Start considering preparations for power outages and flooding.”

Alabama and Georgia are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. E.T.
