Prestigious new college football award named after Herschel Walker

The Maxwell Football Club has officially created the Herschel Walker Award in honor of the former Georgia Bulldogs star running back.

Walker was nothing short of elite throughout his time in Athens. The former Bulldog won the Heisman Award in 1982, as Walker played a crucial role on the Georgia offense during his entire three-year tenure with the program. The Herschel Walker Award was named after the former UGA star following his return in 2024. Walker returned to complete his undergraduate degree despite it being over 40 years since he last played college football.

Walker recorded 5,259 total yards and 49 touchdowns throughout his time at Georgia. Walker is Georgia’s all-time leading rusher and helped the Bulldogs win the 1980 national championship with a Sugar Bowl win over Notre Dame. The talented playmaker is widely regarded as one of the best running backs in the history of college football, as Walker dominated on both the collegiate and professional level.

The Herschel Walker Award could serve as an excellent opportunity for a multitude of former college football players that were unable to complete their degree, as Walker has officially stamped his name in Georgia football history both on and off the gridiron.
