Penn State football will have a completely overhauled roster to get to know in 2026 under new head coach Matt Campbell. Following one of the most active offseasons in recent memory for Penn State with a flurry of activity in the transfer portal, fans will have a lot of catching up to do in getting to know this year’s Penn State roster. Class of 2023: Composite 3-star recruit, No. 88 defensive lineman per 247Sports

Trevor Buhr was recruited primarily as a defensive lineman in the Class of 2023 by Iowa State, under Matt Campbell. But he was quickly molded into being a key member on the other side of the line of scrimmage upon his arrival to the Cyclones program. Buhr was not originally recruited by Penn State out of high school, but his connection and familiarity with Campbell led to him being a three-star transfer player this past offseason for the Nittany Lions as he followed Campbell to Happy Valley.

Other teams to show recruiting interest in Buhr out of high school include Big Ten programs Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois, and Washington, in addition to other power conference programs like Texas A&M and Kansas.

Career Stats

Trevor Buhr started six games and played in eight games for Iowa State during the 2025 season. He did not allow a sack in 218 pass-blocking snaps and he earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors at the end of the season. Buhr played in 13 games and started six games for the Cyclones during the 2024 season.

Depth Chart Overview

Upon his arrival at the Penn State program, Trevor Buhr is expected to lock down a starting job on the offensive line right away. Buhr will likely fill the starting job at left guard, with Chimdy Onoh or Vaea Ikakoula as top alternatives at the position.

Random Fact

Trevor Buhr was a standout defensive player in high school, earning the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year award in Missouri. He was also a three-time all-state player.
