Purdue football added to its 2026 recruiting class to fill a sudden and significant need on special teams.

Jacobo Echeverria Lozano announced his commitment to the Boilermakers on Thursday. That pledge came 12 days after the Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, kicker announced the program had extended a scholarship offer.

Ohio State reportedly also recently offered Echeverria Lozano. His reported offer list also included UCLA, Army and Navy.

Purdue needed additional kicker options after Spencer Porath’s transfer to Notre Dame. While last season’s kickoff specialist, Seth Turner, is scheduled to return, the roster suddenly had no kickers who had even attempted a field goal in a game.

According to Max Preps data, Echeverria Lozano made 17 of 18 field goals last season for Upper St. Clair, with a long of 42. He converted 54 of 56 point-after tries. He also averaged 64.1 yards per kickoff with 66 touchbacks on 84 attempts.

Kohl’s Kicking Camps ranked Echeverria Lozano No. 10 nationally.
