Purdue football’s first quarterback transfer portal decision of the offseason is in.
Malachi Singleton plans to enter the transfer portal, he shared on Instagram. The former Arkansas quarterback spent one season with the Boilermakers, backing up Ryan Browne and playing regularly in specialized packages.
Singelton is the fourth Purdue player so far to announce his intent to enter the portal, following defensive backs Stu Smith and D’Mon Marable, linebacker Winston Berglund and running back Jaheim Merriwather. Players cannot officially enter the transfer portal until January, per rule changes which went into effect this year.
However, Singleton’s departure is important because it could affect what else Purdue does at that position. He was one of five scholarship quarterbacks on the roster at the end of last season. Another came on board last week when Corin Berry signed with the 2026 class.
When asked on signing day whether Purdue’s pursuit of more quarterback talent in the transfer portal depended on attrition at that position, Odom said, “It all depends on who ends up deciding to stay.”
Singleton competed with Browne for the starting job during preseason camp. Throughout the season, he entered games with a specific package of plays, typically in goal-line or short-yardage situations. He ran the full offense on two occasions — in relief of an injured Browne at Northwestern and when alternating series with him at Washington.
The offense moved the ball better under Singleton than under Browne in the lopsided loss at Washington. However, in the season finale against Indiana, Browne played almost every snap, including deep into the fourth quarter of a 56-3 loss.
Singleton completed 59.3% of his passes for 439 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 202 yards and one touchdown.
