Vanderbilt football quarterback Jared Curtis is day to day, coach Clark Lea said Oct. 6.
Curtis was able to practice without much limitation, Lea said, but Curtis would still be listed on the injury report.
Curtis, the five-star freshman quarterback, suffered an undisclosed injury against Auburn on Oct. 3. He was listed as a game-time decision against Georgia but ultimately did not play after the coaching staff didn't like how he looked in warm-ups. Vanderbilt lost to Georgia 38-14 with Blaze Berlowitz starting the game. Curtis was still listed atop the depth chart distributed to the media Oct. 6.
Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-2 SEC) will face No. 11 Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1) at FirstBank Stadium on Oct. 10 (2:30 p.m. CT, ESPN).
"He was able to practice today, and from my vantage point, was able to do so without much limitation," Lea said. "I think we're still day to day, and so he'll still be part of our injury report as we move through the week. But I'm encouraged by progress."
Curtis has appeared in four games, with two starts. He is 63-for-98 passing for 746 yards and four touchdowns, plus 41 rushing attempts for 133 yards.
Berlowitz has appeared in three games at quarterback with two starts. (He also appeared at wide receiver against Auburn.) He is 26-for-48 for 368 yards and a touchdown passing and has 21 rush attempts for 87 yards.
Lea said he was not concerned that the injury would negatively impact Curtis' development.
"I actually see it as part of his development," Lea said. "I think last week was his first time in college going through injury recovery, the control you have and the control you don't, and here's a guy that was just gutted to not play. I thought he was an incredible teammate on Saturday.
" . . . That's certainly an important part of his development, and I've got all the trust and confidence that he was able to get reps last week. He just wasn't able to go at full speed. He continues to develop in our system, in the connection with players and his confidence, and so I don't think that slows down."
