QB Joe Burrow reveals what LSU told him about the use of his jersey number

As you may know, former Heisman-winning QB and LSU great Jayden Daniels grew distraught over the school’s utilization of the #5 jersey. This was Daniels’ number while at LSU, and after an incredible season, it became part of LSU history. 

This offseason, Tigers star CB DJ Pickett was given the same number, which was promised to him during the recruiting process. Daniels then became upset over this, as the school seemed to give him the idea that the number would not be used again, or at least not so soon. This led to some decisions from Daniels’ camp that have drawn the public’s attention, creating an entire situation.  

With it in the public eye, reporters are bound to ask current and former players for their opinions, including Joe Burrow. 

When this number situation began to blow up, many brought up Burrow as he was the other LSU Heisman winner in recent years. So, people wondered what LSU has said to Burrow in the past about his number; this is what the former Tiger had to say: “They told me they wouldn’t use it again, but you never know what happens.”

Burrow probably took the correct direction when faced with that question. Winning a National Championship, leading one of the greatest teams ever, and winning the Heisman is something that not many players in history have done. So, the school saying his number will not be used makes sense, but that was a couple of coaching changes ago, and as Burrow said, things can change.

I doubt a player would wear #9 soon, but I also think it will happen again.
