TCU redshirt junior quarterback Josh Hoover announced Thursday he will transfer. He played for the Horned Frogs from 2022-25.
“First I want to thank God for the opportunities that he has blessed me with to play this game,” Hoover announced. “I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to represent TCU for an incredible four years. It has been a dream to be able to play and graduate from this university and I will forever be grateful for that. I want to thank coach (Sonny) Dykes for giving me the opportunity to play at TCU. I want to thank coach (Kendal) Briles and the rest of the coaching staff for pushing me to be my best on and off the field.
“Lastly, I want to thank my teammates for all of the memories that we’ve shared together. This place has allowed me to meet some of my best friends, and I will always be grateful for that. I’ve prayed about this and decided that I will be entering the transfer portal.”
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback appeared in 36 games for TCU. He completed 771-of-1,183 passing attempts for 9,629 yards, 71 touchdowns and 33 interceptions, while recording eight rushing touchdowns.
Briles was introduced as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Dec. 11 after serving in the same capacity at TCU from 2023-25.
Prior to coaching at TCU, Briles was Arkansas’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2020-22. Following being hired by the Razorbacks, Hoover was offered a scholarship from Arkansas.
“After a great conversation with Kendal Briles, I’m thankful to receive an offer from Arkansas,” Hoover announced on May 29, 2020.
Vols Wire listed Hoover as an ideal quarterback option for Tennessee after Nico Iamaleava transferred from the Vols to UCLA in April.
Tennessee will play at South Carolina on Oct. 24, 2026. Hoover’s brother, Caleb Hoover, will play baseball for South Carolina in 2026.
