Quentin Burrell, four-star WR for 2027, commits to Michigan football

If there were any concerns about the Utah products on the Michigan football staff being able to make recruiting inroads in the Midwest, they're being put to rest, one commit at a time.

The Wolverines landed a pledge from class of 2027 four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell out of Chicago on Wednesday, May 13. The Mount Carmel product was one of the U-M's top targets at the position, rated the No. 6 player in Illinois, No. 14 wide receiver in the country and No. 83 overall prospect in his class, according to 247 Sports' composite rankings.

The 6-foot-3 200-pounder, who was on the Polynesian Bowl roster, held offers from dozens of power conference schools – including Notre Dame, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Miami (Florida), Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oregon – but ultimately committed to U-M and wide receiver coach Micah Simon.

"Steady and productive X projection that will outwork coverage for the football," 247 Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins wrote. "Enters senior season as Mount Carmel’s all-time leader in touchdown catches (142 receptions for 2,396 yards and 34 scores)."

Burrell was a MaxPreps Junior All-America second-team selection in 2025 after he caught 67 passes for 1,139 yards and 16 touchdowns while leading Mount Carmel to an IHSA Class 8A championship. While he's not considered a burner, Burrell has a track background and ran the 100 meters in 11.52 seconds and the 200 meters in 23.68 as an eighth-grader.

"Makes difficult grabs on the sidelines as he attacks passes with focused hands," Ivins wrote. "Quick to get vertical once the ball is secured and will fight for extra yardage. … Already embraces the idea of blocking on the perimeter and will work for teammates.

"Projects as a potential multi-year contributor with all-league upside at the Power Four level."

Burrell was in Ann Arbor last month for the Maize vs Blue spring game and becomes the first wide receiver to commit to head coach Kyle Whittingham and U-M's new staff. He's now the eighth pledge in the class, which was rated No. 8 prior to his commitment.

Five of U-M's eight commits come from the Midwest, including three from Michigan, one from Indianapolis and now another from Chicago.
