The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a good season last year, but it was not enough to win the NFC West, as the Seattle Seahawks were on a different planet. This season, Los Angeles is looking to outduel Seattle and take back the division.

Heading into the season, Puka Nacua has created some offseason drama, putting him in the spotlight. He could be facing a suspension, with a decision expected in the near future.

“Los Angeles is still awaiting a verdict on whether Puka Nacua will be suspended this season because of his offseason transgressions. The decision could arrive at any moment, and the expectation is that it will come sooner rather than later so that the Rams can prepare to play games without him,” California Post’s Grant Young wrote.

With the verdict potentially coming soon, many believed the Rams’ trade for Tutu Atwell on Thursday was connected to the situation.

“The Miami Dolphins have traded wide receiver Tutu Atwell back to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for running back Jarquez Hunter, the teams announced on Thursday. Atwell signed with the Dolphins on a one-year, $1.4 million contract in March. A second-round pick in 2021, he had spent his first five seasons with the Rams,” ESPN wrote.

However, head coach Sean McVay was not going to let those rumors linger, as he quickly cleared the air.

“It had nothing to do with that,” McVay said. “It was exclusively a guy we were familiar with . . . We’re familiar with Tutu. He adds depth. It gives us an opportunity to be able to have that speed element, and he can do some different things. It had nothing to do with anything other than just adding depth to the receiver room.”

While bringing Atwell back gives the Rams a familiar face, the potential suspension still has to be looming in the back of their minds. The wide receiver is a speedster who can provide another element to the offense and could be a valuable piece for Los Angeles.

LA also brought him back at a relatively low cost, allowing the Rams to use him in the ways they know best. It seems as though the organization is trying to put Nacua’s offseason drama behind them and focus on the task at hand. Having Atwell back in a Rams uniform has to feel good for the organization.
