Randy Sanders' history against Kennesaw State football

No. 14 Tennessee (2-0) will host Kennesaw State (1-1) Saturday in Week 3 of the 2026 college football season.
Kickoff between the Vols and Owls is slated for 7:45 p.m. EDT at Neyland Stadium. SEC Network will televise the contest.
Saturday will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
Kennesaw State first fielded a team in 2015. The Owls began playing in the FCS's Big South Conference and advanced to the playoffs four times, while winning the Big South Conference championship three times (2017, 2021).
Kennesaw State faced former Vol and Tennessee assistant coach Randy Sanders and ETSU in a second-round playoff game on Dec. 4, 2021 at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee. ETSU won, 32-31, to advance to the quarterfinals. The Buccaneers lost to North Dakota State, 27-3, in Sanders' last game. He announced his retirement following the loss to the Bison.
ETSU led, 10-7, at halftime and overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter before winning.
The Owls led, 31-17, with 5:02 remaining in the contest before ETSU quarterback Tyler Riddell completed two touchdown passes to Quay Holmes. ETSU made a game-winning two-point conversion after Riddell completed a pass to tight end Nate Adkins, a Bearden High School (Knoxville, Tennessee) graduate.
Riddell completed 22-of-35 passing attempts for 238 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Holmes totaled 87 rushing yards and one touchdown on 13 attempts. He also led the Buccaneers in receiving yards (95). Holmes recorded seven receptions and two touchdowns. Adkins had seven receptions for 94 yards.
Sanders served as ETSU's head coach from 2018-21, compiling a 26–16 record. He played quarterback at Tennessee and served as an assistant coach for the Vols from 1989-2005.
