Ranking every Big Ten team’s recruiting class by blue-chip percentage

The Big Ten is atop the college football world and it is consistently at or near the top of the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, too.

USC signed the nation’s No. 1 class in the 2026 cycle. There’s currently eight Big Ten programs with a top-25 class in the 2027 cycle. That includes all the usual suspects, along with a couple of surprising additions.

There are some disparities when looking at the best classes in the league. Some schools have already compiled well over 20 commits. Others, notably USC, still have room to add or aren’t planning to take a massive haul this time around.

Rivals takes a look at the Big Ten classes that rank the highest based off blue-chip (four and five-star) commit percentage:

Ohio State — 79%

It’s business as usual for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes on the recruiting trail. Ohio State currently has the No. 5 class in the nation, thanks to 19 total commits, 15 of whom are of the blue-chip variety. That includes a trio of five-stars in EDGE David Jacobs, WR Jamier Brown and DL Marcus Fakatou. There’s an additional three top-100 prospects in the mix, too. The four-star duo of Caden Moss and Kellen Wymer form the nation’s best IOL duo this cycle. This class is loaded on all fronts.

Oregon — 67%

It’s Dan Lanning and the Ducks that currently have the top class in the conference, just checking in ahead of Ohio State at No. 4 nationally. Once again, Oregon has gone across the country to swipe blue-chip pledges. Five-star WR Dakota Guerrant is the No. 1 player in Michigan, while five-star EDGE Rashad Streets is the No. 3 player in North Carolina. Those two lead a class that features 16 blue-chippers and 24 total commits. Other top pledges include four-star WR Xavier Sabb, four-star CB Hayden Stepp and four-star QB Will Mencl, all of whom are inside the top 50 overall.

Michigan — 67%

There’s been no recruiting slump for the new Michigan staff, led by Kyle Whittingham. The month of May alone brought the Wolverines eight commitments from four-stars, including top-100 OT Jakari Lipsey, top-100 WR Quentin Burrell and the nation’s No. 9 DL Xavier Muhammad. They’ve since kept the momentum rolling through the summer and now have the No. 11 class in the national team rankings. Two thirds of the 21-man class are four-stars.

USC — 64%

The Trojans are not signing a jam-packed class this cycle. They have just 14 commits in the mix and may not add much more throughout the fall. Still, Lincoln Riley and Co. have won out for a majority of their top targets, including five-star ATH Honor Fa’alave-Johnson and five-star EDGE Mekai Brown. USC has done a fantastic job with in-state talent, as Fa’alave-Johnson is one of six Golden State blue-chippers set to sign with the program this winter.

UCLA — 43%

Bob Chesney now has the reins in Westwood and he’s renewing some confidence around the program heading into his first season this fall. UCLA has the No. 17 class in the country thanks to 23 commits, including 10 four-stars. CB Juju Johnson is the headliner, checking in as the No. 38 overall prospect. He’s atop what might be the best defensive back class in the nation, alongside four-star CB Jerry Outhouse, four-star safety Pole Moala, four-star safety Myles Baker and others. The Bruins have pulled off some impressive flips and beat some established powerhouses for top prospects this cycle.

Nebraska — 36%

The Cornhuskers’ top two commitments have both been in the mix for a long time. Five-star QB Trae Taylor has been pledged since last May, while four-star safety Tory Pittman committed nearly a year ago last August. Both will play their senior seasons in Nebraska before heading to Lincoln. They are two of eight blue-chippers in Matt Rhule’s 2027 class, which now ranks 18th overall. The Huskers have gone down to Georgia to land a trio of four-stars in IOL Jordan Agbanoma, safety Corey Hadley and OT Timi Aliu.

Washington — 33%

Jedd Fisch and the Washington staff continue to do well on their bread-and-butter recruiting tracks. The state of Arizona has brought pledges from four-star QB Blake Roskopf and four-star WR Dontay Tyson. There’s three in-state four-stars in the fold, too: WR Braylon Pope, DL Tevita Nonu and IOL Gecova Doyal. The Huskies have eight four-stars in a class that sits at No. 22 in the nation and No. 7 in the Big Ten heading into the fall.

Penn State — 32%

The Matt Campbell era in Happy Valley is underway, and while that may take some getting used to, prospects are still digging the Nittany Lions. Campbell is hitting some classic pipelines, landing top-100 CB Kei’Shjuan Telfair out of Ohio and the nation’s No. 10 DL and No. 6 player in Pennsylvania, Stanley Montgomery. He’s also found some talent from spots he frequented while at Iowa State, like four-star TE Cooper Terwilliger, the top-ranked recruit in South Dakota, and four-star WR Landon Blum, the No. 1 prospect in Iowa. There’s seven blue-chippers in the 22-man PSU haul.

Indiana — 29%

The dream national championship season hasn’t resulted in major momentum for Indiana on the recruiting trail, but Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers are still inside the top 30 of the team rankings and could sign a landmark group this cycle. IU beat Texas, Alabama and others Five-Star Plus+ WR Monshun Sales, the No. 7 overall prospect. He’s flanked atop the class by a quartet of four-star commits: EDGE Myles Smith, OT Mason McDermott, LB Jalaythan Mayfield and DL Reinaldo Perez.

Wisconsin — 26%

The upcoming season is a massive one for Luke Fickell as he attempts to get Wisconsin back into the upper echelon of the Big Ten. The Badgers are doing their part on the recruiting front and have landed commitments from three of the top four players in-state: OT Cole Reiter, RB Kingston Allen and TE Korz Loken. The top-ranked commit in the fold is four-star safety Mekhi Williams, a former Florida State pledge and the No. 22 recruit in the Sunshine State. Wisconsin is just ahead of Indiana, sitting at No. 28 in the team rankings, good for 9th in the conference.
