Ranking the 10 biggest SEC football games of the 2026 season

Cancel plans, call out of work, and tell those closest to you that you love them because the Southeastern Conference's slate of football games this year is nothing short of spectacular.

The upcoming season marks the first to feature a nine-game conference schedule, which means more bang for our buck when it comes to the intriguing storylines, heightened drama, and must-see television set to unfold in just a few short weeks.

It is challenging to narrow this list down, with so many high-stakes contests on the docket for the upcoming campaign, but here are the 10 SEC matchups we believe you can't afford to miss in 2026:

10. South Carolina vs. Mississippi State

  • When? Saturday, Sept. 19, at 3:15 p.m. CT
  • Where? Williams-Brice Stadium – Columbia, S.C.
  • Tale of the tape: After watching Jeff Lebby's 2-10 performance just two years ago, many probably would've never thought that Mississippi State would be on a list like this, but something feels different about the 2026 Bulldogs. Kamario Taylor versus LaNorris Sellers could create fireworks in Columbia this September, as both programs open their respective SEC slate against each other. Shane Beamer and Lebby have their backs against the ropes this season, and only one of them can walk away from this contest a winner. It's make-or-break for both of these coaches, which spells pure cinema in Week 3.

9. Auburn vs. Florida

  • When? Saturday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. CT
  • Where? Jordan Hare Stadium – Auburn, Ala.
  • Tale of the tape: Jon Sumrall and Alex Golesh meet again. This time, it will be in Jordan Hare at night in SEC competition. Both head coaches had successful campaigns with their former schools, especially Sumrall, who led Tulane to the College Football Playoff in 2025. Now, they are looking to rebuild at blue-blood programs with little patience to give a coach time to catch their stride. Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown could be one of the top signal-callers in the league this season, but Sumrall's hard-nosed and gritty defensive philosophy will look to prevent any explosives from Golesh's high-paced offense. Two new SEC head coaches will face off, but only one can grasp their first conference win.

8. Alabama vs. Georgia

  • When? Saturday, Oct. 10, at TBA
  • Where? Bryant-Denny Stadium – Tuscaloosa, Ala.
  • Tale of the tape: Over the last decade, these two haven't been able to escape from each other. Whether it's during the regular season, in Atlanta or both, Georgia and Alabama always find a way to leave jaws dropped. The Crimson Tide have a quarterback battle occurring in Tuscaloosa, but whoever earns the starting job must be ready for the storm coming to Bryant-Denny Stadium on October 10. Alabama defeated Georgia during the regular season last year before dropping the SEC Championship rematch in 2025. Could Alabama continue to be the thorn in Georgia's side in the regular season?

7. Texas vs. Ole Miss

  • When? Saturday, Oct. 24, at TBA
  • Where? Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium – Austin, Texas
  • Tale of the tape: Ole Miss is synonymous with the Manning family, but we could see that name become the kryptonite of the Rebels in 2026. In his first season as the head coach, Pete Golding will lead his team into Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for the first time since 2013. It is one of the many roadblocks the Longhorns have in their path to reaching Atlanta, but drawing this one at home is a major advantage in Steve Sarkisian's favor.

6. Georgia vs. Oklahoma

  • When? Saturday, Sept. 26, at TBA
  • Where? Samford Stadium – Athens, Ga.
  • Tale of the tape: One of the more underrated games on the 2026 slate features two of the most creative and dangerous defensive masterminds in the sport. Oklahoma will travel to Athens to compete against the Georgia Bulldogs for the first time in a regular-season contest. The last time these programs faced off was in the 2017 Rose Bowl, in which Kirby Smart's squad secured a 54-48 win in a shootout in Pasadena.

5. LSU vs. Texas

  • When? Saturday, Nov. 14, at TBA
  • Where? Tiger Stadium – Baton Rouge, La.
  • Tale of the tape: If both teams live up to expectations, we could witness a matchup of the undefeateds come November 14. The time of the contest has not been finalized, but it is slated in the flex slot, which means it will be an afternoon or night game in one of the most intimidating environments in college football. Can Arch Manning march into Tiger Stadium and put a dent in Lane Kiffin's first season at LSU?

4. Ole Miss vs. Georgia

  • When? Saturday, Nov. 7, at TBA
  • Where? Vaught-Hemingway Stadium – Oxford, Miss.
  • Tale of the tape: After exploding onto the scene and leading Ole Miss to the CFP, Trinidad Chambliss had the best performance of his collegiate career against the Georgia Bulldogs in the quarterfinal Allstate Sugar Bowl. Chambliss threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-31 win over Kirby Smart's squad in the second matchup between the two teams last season. Now, the Bulldogs will be looking for revenge, but will be forced to travel to compete against the Rebs in Vaught-Hemingway. Ole Miss lost a lot of key pieces on defense, which could allow Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett to put up some numbers. Expect more special moments when these two square off in November.

3. Oklahoma vs. Texas

The Sooners line up before the Red River Rivalry college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorn at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025.

  • When? Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2:30 p.m. CT
  • Where? Cotton Bowl Stadium – Dallas, Texas
  • Tale of the tape: Two of the most talented rosters in the SEC will meet in October for what's sure to be a heated and entertaining contest. Last season, the Longhorns did not allow the Sooners to score a touchdown in a 23-6 win. Oklahoma is 6-4 in the last 10 matchups, however. Manning will be facing one of the most elite defenses in the country, but he has a more talented squad down in Austin in 2026.

2. Texas A&M vs. Texas

  • When? Friday, Nov. 27, at 6:30 p.m. CT
  • Where? Kyle Field – Bryan-College Station, Texas
  • Tale of the tape: Beyond the battle of in-state supremacy lies Mike Elko's opportunity to get on the board against the Longhorns. Since joining the SEC and rekindling the rivalry with the Aggies, Texas has secured back-to-back wins, including a 27-17 win that prevented Texas A&M from reaching its first SEC Championship game in 2025. It's no secret how important this game is to both schools, but especially to Elko and company. If both teams perform as projected, there could also be a trip to the CFP on the line in November.

1. Ole Miss vs. LSU

  • When? Saturday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 p.m. CT
  • Where? Vaught-Hemingway Stadium – Oxford, Miss.
  • Tale of the tape: The prodigal son returns, but he will be faced with tens of thousands of rowdy and angry Ole Miss fans in Oxford. Kiffin's departure to Baton Rouge was one of the worst exits from a program in college football history, only surpassed by him when he left Tennessee. Kiffin has wasted no time stirring the pot with Ole Miss at every opportunity, but it could come back to bite him on September 19. The matchup between the Tigers and Rebels is one of the most highly anticipated college football games in recent memory. Make sure the fridge is full, the recliner is in the right position and get your popcorn ready.
