Kyle Whittingham and the Michigan Wolverines continue to prepare to show off their team in front of fans for the very first time on April 18 in the program’s annual spring game. But behind the scenes, the coaches are also impressing recruits that have been visiting this spring.
Michigan ‘at the top’ for top in-state target
Among the best players in the state of Michigan in the 2028 class is four-star offensive lineman Antijuan Wilkes Jr. At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, the Detroit native who attends Cass Tech is the No. 22 overall prospect in the class on the Rivals Industry Ranking.
Wilkes visited Ann Arbor last week and is set to visit again this weekend. Speaking with On3’s Ethan McDowell ($), he detailed his trip and what stood out to him during his time.
“Everything, from the practice to the coaching, just everything,” Wilkes said. “I just feel like I’ll be a great fit with them guys, and I feel like I could go and play early.”
After that visit, he declared Michigan as being “most definitely at the top” for him. Michigan State, Texas A&M, LSU and others are also early frontrunners for Wilkes.
New edge target reacts to offer
Last week, the Wolverines offered a scholarship to 2027 three-star edge rusher Uhila Wolfgramm. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, Wolfgramm hails from the state of Utah. He was offered by edge coach Lewis Powell, who actually recruited him when he was still with the Utes.
Speaking with The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($), Wolfgramm explained how he felt when he received the offer and how Powell feels like family to him.
“Coach Powell called me,” Wolfgramm said. “I was excited. I jokingly asked what took them so long since I was recruited by them when they were at Utah and coach (Jay) Hill at BYU.
“I’ve known coach Powell for a few years. He offered me summer of my freshman year going into sophomore year. He’s also like an uncle to me. Grew up in California with my mom’s brother in the Bay Area.”
Shortly following the offer, Wolfgramm quickly scheduled an unofficial visit. He took that trip last week, per On3’s McDowell ($), one day after landing the offer. Even before the visit he said that Michigan is “one of the top (schools) for sure.” He also holds offers from Utah, BYU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa State, UCLA, North Carolina, Arizona State and others.
