Spring practices have officially begun for the Michigan Wolverines! Not only is the team in the infant stages of preparing for the 2026 season, but Kyle Whittingham and his coaching staff are also going to be hosting a ton of recruits over the next month or so, leading up to official visit season in June.
Let’s kick off today’s Recruiting Roundup with a player that is already in the middle of a spring visit.
Michigan at the top of the list for former Georgia commit
2027 three-star wide receiver Gavin Honore is in the midst of a three-day unofficial visit to Michigan that runs from March 17-19. This is the first ever trip to Ann Arbor for the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder who plays high school football at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.
Honore was previously committed to Georgia, but opened things back and now has Michigan at the top of his list, as he revealed in a recent interview prior to his visit.
“Michigan is at the top because I have that good relationship with coach (Micah) Simon,” Honore told Rivals’ Chad Simmons ($). “I’ve watched Michigan football growing up, too, so I know what they are about as a program. They are also one of the schools recruiting me the hardest.”
One of the things on Honore’s agenda while in Ann Arbor this week is to schedule his official visit. That seems like pretty good news considering he is just now in the middle of his visit and he was already thinking about planning his next trip.
“The most important thing is just building a good relationship with the coaches and finding out what program is the best fit for me with my playing style,” he said.
Honore is planning to make his final commitment sometime this summer after taking official visits.
SEC commit currently on a visit
According to On3’s Ethan McDowell ($), the Wolverines hosted 2027 four-star tight end Colt Lumpris for a visit yesterday for Michigan’s first spring practice of the year. The 6-foot-6.5, 230-pounder from New Jersey has been committed to Alabama since December, but is clearly receptive to other schools considering he was just in Ann Arbor and has other visits planned.
Lumpris had an offer from the previous Michigan staff, but was re-offered last month by new tight ends coach Freddie Whittingham.
“Michigan has showed interest in building a relationship, and I do understand the value of relationships building,” Lumpris said.
Lumpris has official visits locked in with Penn State and Texas A&M, and he said he wants to schedule one with Michigan, too. If all went well on his visit this week, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him back in June.
We’ll follow this one closely and work to get some more updates to you on how his visit went.
Quick Hitters
- A few other recruits are set to visit to visit this week, including 2027 four-star safety Tristan Hughes today, as well as 2027 three-star offensive line commit Tristan Dare and 2027 four-star defensive back Tavares Harrington beginning Thursday and lasting through Saturday.
- Two three-star offensive linemen are set to visit this weekend — Conner Rutherford and Carter Jones, according to On3’s McDowell. The visit for Jones is particularly notable, as he just earned his offer from the Wolverines a couple weeks ago.
- Finally, a brief update on 2027 five-star defensive lineman Markus Fakatou. His visit this spring has changed to April 18, per Rivals’ Adam Gorney ($). Seems likely he will be in attendance for Michigan’s spring game now.
