Recruiting Roundup: Recruits react to Michigan Football beating Purdue

Saturday’s win for the Michigan Wolverines against Purdue wasn’t pretty, but the team still managed to impress some visitors in the process. We’ll talk about that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup.

Four-star edge impressed by Michigan visit

One recruit who was on campus over the weekend was 2027 four-star edge rusher Krew Jones. He enjoyed his time in Ann Arbor.

“It was a wonderful visit overall,” Jones told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($). “The atmosphere in The Big House is what everyone says it’s like — it’s crazy. I got to talk with all the coaches about some ball. I learned more about Michigan and their culture. The game was probably a little messier than they would have liked, but it was a win. They got to learn more about what they need to fix, which is a plus.”

It wasn’t a great performance by the Wolverines, but Jones still had positive takeaways watching the defense.

“They are definitely fast and violent,” Jones said. “I saw (Derrick) Moore get after it quite a few times. He had a couple of sacks. The whole defensive line was constantly putting pressure on them. Michigan is definitely a program I could see myself fitting into. I love the scheme.”

Right now, Michigan is in good standing with Jones.

“I’d say they are towards the top of the schools that I’m liking,” Jones added. “I loved the whole experience. It’s putting them towards the top of my list.”

A couple top 2027 recruits rave about Michigan visit

Jones wasn’t the only important visitor over the weekend. Some other notable recruits in the 2027 class that were in town include four-star running back Noah Roberts and four-star athlete Brayton Feister. Both of them had good things to say about Michigan.

“My visit to Michigan was great,” Roberts told Wiltfong ($). “The vibe around the program is amazing and the thing that continues to excite me is that they run the ball a lot and use their running backs a lot.”

Roberts is among Michigan’s top targets at his position in the class. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder from Arizona is ranked No. 101 overall and is a Top-10 running back in the nation.

“My visit was incredible,” Feister said. “They showed an insane amount of love! They’re the most-winningest team in college football for a reason. They send a lot of guys to the league!”

Feister, an Akron, Ohio native, visited with his brother, 2028 prospect Brydon Feister, with the younger brother earning an offer during the trip. It was a good weekend for the Feister family, by the sounds of it, and they are names to keep in mind on the trail moving forward.

Four-star RB breaks down Michigan interest

2027 four-star running back Tranard Roberts recently narrowed his list of college options down to five, and Michigan is still alive.

“Michigan combines strong academics, school spirit, and real opportunities for growth,” Roberts told Rivals ($). “I’m drawn to its balance of challenge and community, and I know it’s a place where I could thrive and become a leader.”

A big reason Michigan is in the hunt is thanks to running backs coach Tony Alford. He has done an outstanding job on the recruiting trail during his time with the Wolverines, and is making Roberts a priority.

“Michigan is up there because of coach Tony Alford,” Roberts said. “We’re really close. We talk maybe two or three times a week. We’ve steadily built a relationship and are becoming closer. We have kind of a father-son type of relationship.”

Roberts also has an old teammate playing for Michigan in true freshman Donovan Johnson. That type of connection certainly won’t hurt the Wolverines’ shot at landing him.

“It would definitely be good to team up with Donovan again,” he said. “My boy is going to heal up soon. He’s given me advice on why he went to Michigan and all the pros about it.”

Roberts visited last month for the win over Washington and is hoping to visit again sometime during the offseason.

Quick-Hitters

  • Michigan extended an offer to 2027 offensive tackle Mason Halliman last week.
  • Lastly, Michigan offered 2027 OL Kellen Wymer on Friday, but he committed to Ohio State on Sunday. We’ll see if the Wolverines can get back in the race.
