The Michigan Wolverines have gotten through their first week of spring practice, and they also hosted a handful of recruits to kick off unofficial visit season. Practice continues today, and one of Michigan’s top targets at the quarterback position will be in town for a crucial visit.
Four-star QB visiting Michigan today
2027 four-star quarterback Dane Weber will be in Ann Arbor on Monday for an unofficial visit, he announced on social media last week.
The 6-foot, 215-pounder from California was offered by the Wolverines shortly after the new coaching staff came in. Quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. and offensive coordinator Jason Beck are the lead recruiters for him, and they have been recruiting him since they were at their previous program.
“I’m very high on Michigan,” Weber previously told Rivals’ Adam Gorney ($). “The staff that is there now was the first staff to offer me when they were at Utah. So them believing in me means a lot to me. Can’t wait to get on a visit.”
This won’t be his only time in Ann Arbor, as he has also schedule his official visit for the weekend of June 12, according to On3’s Ethan McDowell ($).
Weber has a top-eight list that includes Michigan, Oregon, UCLA, Kansas, Kansas State, Cal, Cincinnati and Stanford, but he also has interest in USC, as he just took an unofficial visit a couple weeks ago.
Priority RB target also on campus today
One of Tony Alford’s recently-offered recruits in the 2027 class will also be on campus for an unofficial visit on Monday, as three-star running back TJ Lewis will be taking his first trip to Ann Arbor beginning today.
The 6-foot, 215-pounder from Bolingbrook, Illinois was offered by the Wolverines last month. He also holds offers from Penn State, Indiana, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Minnesota, Kansas State, Kansas and more.
Lewis’ official visit schedule is already pretty booked, with trips to Minnesota, Kansas and Indiana already locked in. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Michigan get on the list, and that may even happen during today’s visit.
Top S target discusses recent trip, locks in next 2 visits
A rising target for the Wolverines in the 2027 class is three-star safety Darrell Mattison. The 6-foot-2, 160-pound Chicago native was offered by Michigan’s new staff back in January and is coming off a solid junior year where he racked up five interceptions.
Mattison visited for a spring practice last week, and it was such a good time that he locked in his next two visits to Ann Arbor. Mattison told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) that he will visit Michigan again on April 18 for the spring game, and then come back for his official visit the weekend of June 12.
“It was mind-blowing,” Mattison said of his recent visit.
In addition to checking out a practice, Mattison also got to connect with new safeties coach Tyler Stockton, who is his main recruiter. Defensive coordinator Jay Hill and head coach Kyle Whittingham have also prioritized him, as they went to visit him at his school over the winter recruiting period.
“He’s a very genuine, very kind guy,” Mattison said of Stockton. “He’s very just upfront, you know? He doesn’t BS you — excuse my language — but he’s a very straightforward guy … he was just saying how he sees me as, basically, not one of his players, but I would be treated as one of his own. The message he was relaying was pretty good.”
Mattison also holds offers from schools like Penn State, Iowa State, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Washington, Michigan State and more.
