Florida State football has hired Nick Williams to be the program’s next edge coach, according to reports from ESPN.

The Bainbridge, Georgia native spent the last two seasons on Syracuse’s staff under Fran Brown in the same role. Williams has prior stops at Colorado, Texas A&M and Georgia.

He played two seasons at Georgia before transferring to North Alabama. Williams had a brief pro career before taking a graduate assistant role with the Bulldogs, where he coached current Jacksonville Jaguar Travon Walker, and Philadelphia Eagles duo Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, among others.

It’s the first hire of the offseason for Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell, who now pairs Williams with defensive line coach Terrance Knighton, who was hired last offseason when Tony White took the defensive coordinator role.

More staff changes are expected after Pat Surtain was fired from the program, leaving a defensive back coach’s role open.
