14 years ago this December, BSD writer Dan Vecellio wrote about a JUCO quarterback prospect Jake Waters picking Kansas State over Penn State. The Daily Collegian had a quote from Waters where he said, “I think God just showed me a sign that K-State was the place for me.” Well, God must have rethought about it because Jake Waters will finally make his way to Penn State — this time, as the quarterbacks coach.
Waters comes to Penn State after six seasons on Matt Campbell’s staff at Iowa State. The first in 2017 as a GA, then as an offensive quality control coach from 2021-2023, and most recently as the full-time quarterbacks coach the last two seasons. Waters worked with Brock Purdy for one season, and has played a big part in rising senior QB Rocco Becht, who may be a player Penn State fans should keep an eye on should he enter the transfer portal this January.
As I mentioned in the Noah Pauley post, there’s some expectation that Dan Connor and Deion Barnes will be staying on the staff in Happy Valley, meaning that Matt Campbell on-the-field staff is just about filled out with defensive coordinator, running backs coach, and special teams coach the only vacant spots.
