New Mexico State has scheduled a road non-conference game against Florida State for its 2026 season. It will be played in “Week 0”, an informal name for the weekend of games before the official Week 1.
Noles247 was the first to report the news.
The Aggies are eligible to play a Week 0 game because they travel to play Hawaii in 2026. An NCAA bylaw grants Hawaii and its road opponents the option of playing a Week 0 game.
Teams are also eligible to schedule a 13th game if they play on the road against Hawaii. However, NM State only has four non-conference games scheduled so far against FSU, Hawaii, FCS Mercyhurst and New Mexico, alongside its eight Conference USA games that have yet to be announced.
The Aggies previously had Central Michigan as part of their 2026 non-conference slate, but that game was canceled earlier this year so the Chippewas could play UNM in Albuquerque next season instead. The agreement was made between all three schools.
FSU will reportedly pay NM State $1.4 million in Tallahassee, FL. The Aggies and Seminoles have only played once before in football, which was a 36-0 victory for the latter in Tallahassee in 1964.
The Seminoles went 5-7 (2-6 ACC) in 2025 and announced on Nov. 23 that coach Mike Norvell would be retained for the 2026 season.
