The search for LSU football's next head coach continues to draw attention. The Tigers' top candidate is no secret but there are a few other names in the mix, according to recent reports.

The Baton Rouge Advocate's Scott Rabalais reported that if LSU misses out on hiring current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, Eli Drinkwitz and Jon Sumrall are the next targets. Drinkwitz is currently Missouri's head coach, while Sumrall holds the same position at Tulane.

Drinkwitz brings familiarity with the SEC, and Missouri improved steadily over his tenure. The Tigers won 10 or more games in each of the last two seasons and could do so again in 2025 should they win out. They opened the season with five-straight wins and fell to No. 8 Alabama and No. 10 Vanderbilt by one score.

Coming from an in-state team, Sumrall has the Green Wave in the College Football Playoff conversation. The Green Wave finished with double-digit wins and is on track to play in its second-straight American Conference championship. They have a ranked win over No. 22 Memphis in 2025, along with power four wins over Northwestern and Duke.
