Michigan State football played in front of a live crowd at Spartan Stadium on Saturday, and the quarterback play was up and down based on reports.
Michigan State football wrapped up spring practice with their 'Spring Showcase' event from Spartan Stadium. This was not technically a spring game, but rather an open practice with scrimmage play included as part of the event.
The event was not televised or streamed anywhere so for those not in attendance, we have to rely on any insight on the event from those who were there at Spartan Stadium. That included Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows, who took down some unofficial stats from the live scrimmage play.
Per Matasovsky's unofficial stat keeping from the press box, Michigan State starting quarterback Alessio Milivojevic had an up-and-down day. He completed 15 of 23 pass attempts for 79 yards and one interception. He had the most pass attempts of any quarterback and thus the most passing yards as well.
It also appears, based on stats from Matasovsky, that freshman quarterbacks Kayd Coffman and Leo Hannan had solid outings. Coffman finished the day completing 4 of 7 attempts for 45 yards and Hannan was nearly perfect with completions on 4 of 5 attempts for 50 yards.
Expected backup quarterback and UCF transfer Cam Fancher appeared to struggle in his limited action, completing only 1 of 5 pass attempts for 4 yards and one interception. It'll be interesting to see if the veteran incoming transfer will end up as the backup quarterback this fall or if one of the younger guys like Coffman or Hannan will push for the second string spot.
