Norwalk native and UConn star running back Cam Edwards has decided to enter the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.
The redshirt junior ran for 1,132 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, leading the team in both categories. He also caught 19 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. The Norwalk High School grad was UConn’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2019 (Kevin Mensah), and will likely be highly-sought-after in the portal.
Edwards showed his explosiveness in several games this season, rushing for more than 100 yards five times. He ran for a season-high 194 yards and two touchdowns against Ball State on Sept. 20, and put up 165 rushing yards and two more scores against Air Force on Nov. 15. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
Edwards became the 10th player to reportedly enter the portal since Jim Mora announced his departure to become head coach at Colorado State.
Defensive back Cam Chadwick, who led the team with four interceptions, Bristol native and running back Victor Rosa, Windsor native and defensive back Chris Hudson, linebacker Oumar Diomande, who ranked second on the team with 111 tackles, Milford native and burgeoning star wideout John Neider, running backs MJ Flowers and Mel Brown, defensive backs Kolubah Pewee Jr., Osiris Gilbert and offensive tackle Carsten Casady have also reportedly entered the portal.
The team is set to undergo transition to its roster as it introduced new head coach Jason Candle earlier this week. Candle has already recruited incoming freshman quarterback Bo Polston to join him in Storrs. Polston, who was ranked as the No. 81 QB in his class by 247Sports, originally committed to play for Candle at Toledo.
