Revisiting Indiana-Miami CFP national championship game predictions

On Monday night, Indiana defeated Miami 27-21 to win the national championship. Prior to the game, I gave five predictions for the matchup—my final predictions of the 2025 college football season.
How did my picks fare? Let’s take a look back and see:
Fernando stays efficient
“Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy this season not by putting up massive passing numbers, but rather with his efficiency and accuracy. That continues against Miami, as he completes more than 70% of his passes but throws for under 250 yards.”
Mendoza completed under 60% of his pass attempts for 186 yards. Miami’s secondary did a good job shutting down Indiana’s passing game, making this prediction a miss.
Controlling the lines
“Miami has significantly more former four and five-star recruits than Indiana, especially along the lines of scrimmage. That does not matter on Monday, however, as the Hoosiers gain more rushing yards than the Hurricanes.”
Indiana rushed for 131 yards while Miami had 110. A hit!
Fletcher finds the end zone
“Miami’s run game is not totally shut down, however. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. finally scores his first rushing touchdown of the playoff.”
Fletcher had not one, but two touchdowns to go along with 112 rushing yards.
Giving it away
“In both of Miami’s losses this season, Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck threw multiple interceptions. I am not sure that he throws multiple against the Hoosiers, but the Indiana defense gets at least one pick.”
For most of the game, Beck protected the football, but in the final minute, he threw an interception that clinched the title for Indiana.
Completing the story
“Would an Indiana national championship be the greatest college football story that we have ever seen? Well, it is time to start having that discussion, because the Hoosiers take down Miami to win the title.”
They really did it. The Indiana Hoosiers are indeed national champions.
Overall performance
I ended the season on a high note, getting four if my five predictions correct.
Thanks for following along with these picks all season long. Until next year!
