Reynolds football has its new coach.

The Rockets introduced Chandler Greer on Dec. 12, officially naming a successor to longtime Reynolds coach Shane Laws. Greer will take over a program that went 7-5 in 2025 with a first-round playoff victory.

Greer, 29, has been an assistant coach at Reynolds for four years, working with the team’s offensive line. Greer was an offensive lineman at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, and signed with Appalachian State, where he played five years. He started 13 games in 2018 and was named second-team All-Sun Belt.

Laws, the program’s winningest coach, announced his retirement Nov. 19, stepping down after 19 years. He had a career record of 184-62 and was 104-13 in Mountain Athletic Conference play, winning 12 conference titles, 10 of which were outright.

Laws led the Rockets to a 4A state championship in 2009, his third season as coach. It was the third title in school history and first since 2002. Reynolds defeated Harnett Central, 14-13, in the title game. In 2017, Laws coached the Rockets to a 3AA West Regional championship.

Greer will inherit a roster with two quarterback options in Avery Hollifield and Kolton Rymer, who threw for 674 and 952 yards, respectively, in 2025. Reynolds will also have returning lineman Zak Elassy and one of WNC’s best returning defensive backs in Zion Ikeme.
