The Florida Gators shook the program up on Oct. 19, firing head coach Billy Napier after starting the 2025 season 3-4. Since then, the Gators have lost three straight and are 3-7. It’s been a disappointing year after entering Week 1 ranked No. 15 in the AP Top 25 Poll.
With Napier gone, Florida finds itself in a competitive coaching market. Between the firings of Brian Kelly at LSU, Hugh Freeze at Auburn and Sam Pittman at Arkansas, the Gators are one of four SEC teams in need of a new head coach.
It’s an attractive destination, though, as the Gators had the eighth-highest 2025 NIL collective at $15.8 million, according to 247Sports.
Florida’s opening is sure to draw a lot of attention, and Athlon Sports’ Steven Lassan listed Louisville Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm as one name to watch.
Since taking over as the Cardinals’ head coach in 2023, he’s been successful. In 37 games, he’s led the team to a 26-11 record and gone 1-1 in bowl games. In 2023, Louisville went 10-4 under Brohm, marking the program’s first double-digit win season since 2013.
Before Louisville, he spent six years with the Purdue Boilermakers, going 36-34 and was with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers for three years, compiling a 30-10 record.
As the offensive play caller, Brohm has the Cardinals ranked eighth in the ACC in points per game (31.5) and ninth in total yards per game (399.8). Offensive struggles have been a big piece of Florida’s inefficiency in 2025, averaging just 20.8 points per game.
As the Gators evaluate their next move, Brohm’s proven track record and ability to call offensive plays effectively make him an intriguing option. Based on Florida’s potential and resources, it would also be a big jump forward for the Louisville coach.
