Rutgers football’s recruiting momentum continues.
Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights on June 4 secured a commitment from Arnold Mugerwa, a wide receiver recruit from Richland High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Mugerwa is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 15 overall recruit in Pennsylvania for his class, per the 247Sports Composite. He’s also ranked as the No. 56 overall wide receiver recruit in the class.
James Franklin and Virginia Tech, as well as Florida State, were pushing hard to land Mugerwa, but he ultimately chose Rutgers as his destination.
Mugerwa was slated to take a visit to Virginia Tech, but that will no longer be happening.
He also held offers from Michigan State, Texas A&M, Maryland, Syracuse and others.
Rutgers now has 14 members of its 2027 recruiting class.
Mugerwa is the second wide receiver, joining Delaware prospect Jamar Taylor, who chose Rutgers despite a hard push from Georgia.
Schiano and the Scarlet Knights have had a strong stretch with recruiting, landing a total of six commitments over the past weekend.
That included a commitment from Florida cornerback Zion Vilma, who also had offers from Georgia, Florida State, Miami and others. He’s the cousin of former NFL linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who played for Schiano at Miami when Schiano was the defensive coordinator prior to his first stint at Rutgers.
