Rutgers football just landed a major commitment for its 2027 recruiting class.
Don Bosco wide receiver Isaiah Alvarez, one of the top wideouts in the state, announced during a ceremony on June 13 that he had committed to Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights.
Alvarez is the 20th member of the class and third wide receiver, joining Jamar Taylor (Salesianum High School, Delaware) and Arnold Mugerwa (Richland High School, Pennsylvania).
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Alvarez is a three-star recruit and the No. 20 overall prospect in New Jersey for his class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Alvarez picked Rutgers from a group of finalists that also included Michigan State, Nebraska and Colorado.
Ultimately Alvarez will be staying much closer to home.
It’s an important commitment for Rutgers for multiple reasons.
For one, the Scarlet Knights are getting another high-caliber receiver in the pipeline. It continues to a major position of strength for Rutgers, one that’s thrived under wide receivers coach Dave Brock.
The emergence and development of KJ Duff, one of the top receivers in the Big Ten and a potential first-round draft pick next April, is an important factor in Rutgers’ ability to attract other talented wideouts.
Alvarez’s commitment also shows that the Rutgers can still attract talent from one of New Jersey’s non-public powerhouses.
In the modern era of recruiting, where so much is driven by money and NIL, that’s important.
Alvarez is one of the most impactful members of Rutgers’ 2027 recruiting class.
