Rutgers gets commitment from 2027 DE Josiah Sturdivant

Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights just landed one of the more underrated recruits on their list.

On Sunday, defensive end Josiah Sturdivant announced his commitment to Rutgers. He held other offers from Old Dominion, East Carolina, James Madison, Kent State, and Furman.

Sturdivant had two other visits planned but will cancel them and become the 10th member of Rutgers 2027 recruiting class.

Sturdivant was on campus for an official visit this weekend after being recruited hard by tight ends coach Scott Vallone. Defensive coorfinator Travis Johansen also saw Sturdivant in-person and this led to an offer being extended in May, which was the first Power Four offer for Sturdivant.

The 6-foot-4 edge opened eyes during his junior year at Wake Forest High School. He totaled 51 tackles, 15.5 for loss, with eight sacks and one forced fumble.

Sturdivant is the second commit in the class to come out of North Carolina, joining linebacker Moses Poku-Kankam. He is also the third defensive player. This includes safety Trent Buttles.
