The spring has given a look at the new look Buckeyes and they’re not totally set on all 11 starters on both side of the football. One Ohio State lineman has a chance to take a starting job.
The Ohio State football program will wrap up spring practice on Saturday with a scrimmage in front of fans. Ohio State will wrap up just over a dozen spring practices in preparation for the 2026 season.
Ohio State will have double-digit players drafted again next week. The Buckeyes’ offensive line isn’t set and there’s opportunity for a new face to start in the fall.
Injury has opened the door for a new Ohio State starter
Both of Ohio State’s starting offensive tackles from last season are sidelined the rest of the spring due to minor surgeries they underwent. Ian Moore and Carter Lowe are getting more opportunities this spring, and Moore is specifically competing for a starting spot.
“Ian has done some really good things, so that’s been great,” head coach Ryan Day said on Monday. “And I think he understands now going into this year, he’s got some time under his belt – he certainly has gotten better, and he’s got an opportunity to play himself into a starter role here.”
If Moore is to take the left tackle spot, Siereveld would slide into the right guard spot that doesn’t have a set starter. Siereveld opted to return to Ohio State for another season and he’s a natural guard who has had to play tackle. Moving back to guard would be an ideal move for the senior.
Moore was the top-rated offensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class for the Buckeyes. The 6-foot-6, 312-pound offensive lineman has been a notable standout at times in presence and Saturday’s scrimmage will be a chance to do so in front of fans and a game-like environment.
Ohio State needs its best five offensive linemen out there no matter what the combination is. If Moore continues to carry this momentum from the spring into summer workouts, then fall camp, he’s going to be starting against Ball State in Week 1.
