Week 3 of the college football season was a fascinating one for many reasons, with multiple upsets occurring and some solid ranked matchups taking place. The New Orleans Saints, per usual, were among the many pro scouts out in the country taking a look at some of the players who may be high on their board. Here's who stood out.

Texas Tech vs. Houston

The first report came from Keith Inglis of Texas Tech OnSI, who noted New Orleans had staff in attendance for the game between No. 22 Houston and No. 13 Texas Tech, among 14 other teams. This matchup ended in a close final score of 28-26 in favor of Texas Tech, as Houston was able to keep things close for the majority of the game. When it comes to 2027 prospects, Tankathon has two Houston players highlighted and seven from Texas Tech.

Houston's prospects to watch were running back Makhi Hughes and quarterback Conner Weigman, both of whom appear to be Day 3 prospects. Weigman had a great showing, posting 283 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, along with 56 yards on the ground. Hughes also had a solid game, with 70 rushing yards on 15 attempts and 39 receiving yards on 3 receptions. Texas Tech linebackers Ben Roberts (a possible top-100 pick) and Austin Romaine (a potential Day 3 prospect) led their defense with eight and seven tackles, respectively.

Miami vs. Wake Forest

As for the other game where the Saints attended, per ESPN's Jordan Reid, that was No. 5 Miami vs. Wake Forest, with Miami making it close with a 33-20 victory. Miami has six possible top-100 prospects and a notable 2028 name (wide receiver Malachi Toney). It's still early but Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah and defensive lineman Justin Scott both rank inside this year's top 20 prospects.

Mensah had a standout performance once again, going 30 for 34 with 220 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, accompanied by running back Mark Fletcher Jr. (currently projected as a third rounder), who had 16 rushes for 85 yards before exiting with a shoulder injury. He's reportedly day-to-day and shouldn't miss much time. Another possible first rounder, defensive lineman Ahmad Moten Sr., finished with 3 tackles and a half sack, as the defense spread out its production among many different players throughout the day. Toney did what he does, though, posting 12 receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown, continuing to build a case as a top 2028 prospect.
