For all the fireworks between UCLA and Cal in the first half, the second half started off with a scary moment.

Bruins wide receiver Landon Ellis got the ball in the backfield as he ran past Semaj Morgan, but took a huge hit to the head from Cal's AJ Tuitele just as he dumped it off to Nico Iamaleava. The senior's head appeared to bounce off the turf as he hit the ground, and he stayed down for a few minutes as trainers ran onto the field to attend to him.

The raucous stadium went quiet, but Ellis was eventually able to sit up and walk off the field under his own power. Tuitele was flagged for targeting upon further review and ejected from the game.

Landon Ellis injury update

While an official update from UCLA likely won't come until later, Ellis is likely done for the night, at the very least. A hit like that almost certainly puts the JMU transfer in concussion protocol; how long he'd stay in there remains to be seen. However, the fact that Ellis was able to get up and walk off the field on his own is itself a sigh of relief, as the injury initially looked like it could've been much worse.

USA TODAY Sports will update with any further details.
