We had a chance to check in with Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon sophomore offensive lineman Lance Ciechanowski at the Adidas Polynesian Bowl Combine two weeks ago and he has a pair of schools at the top of his list.
Ciechanowski is an exciting young tackle prospect, currently rated the No. 53 player nationally in the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
He missed most of his sophomore season with a lower leg injury but oozes upside and looked good moving around at the Poly Combine and told us he’s recovered and will be full go for spring practice.
He measured in at an athletic 6-foot-5, 292 pounds with long arms and looked fluid in the position drills. He’s a true tackle and despite the lack of game reps, Ciechanowski is already a national recruit with scholarship offers from schools all over the country.
Texas is a high on his list and Ciechanowski camped with the Longhorns last summer and picked up a scholarship offer.
“That trip was amazing,” Ciechanowski said. “I loved the hospitality and environment. The Southern hospitality is different and I loved the coaching staff and being around coach Flood.
“Coach Flood is one of my favorite coaches and reminds me of one my coaches here at Sierra Canyon. I love his mindset and mentality. It’s technique over everything and we have a really good relationship.”
Ciechanowski was back at Texas earlier this week and had another great visit.
“This visit really exceeded my expectations,” Ciechanowski said. “The staff was extremely welcoming, and the intensity of the practice stood out immediately.
“I also enjoyed spending time on campus and learning more about the academic programs they offer. Texas is definitely one of my top schools right now, it’s them and Arizona State at the top.”
Ciechanowski also visited Tennessee on Tuesday and is hoping to return back during the season.
“The visit to Tennessee was a great experience,” Ciechanowski said. “I loved it there and the coaches were encouraging me to come back for a game and said the atmosphere on game days is crazy.
“I was able to meet and speak with coach (Glen) Elarbee and we had a great conversation about my development for transition to college. They haven’t offered yet but will be watching me and recruiting me moving forward.”
As mentioned, Arizona State is high on the list with Ciechanowski he’s planning to visit later this month.
“I was supposed to visit on the 11th but I might have to move it because that’s same weekend as the Under Armour Camp,” Ciechanowski said. “I went to an ASU game last year and had a really good time I love the coaching staff.
“I’m close with coach (Saga) Tuitele, he’s a great guy and a really good coach. I really like coach Kenny (Dillingham) as well and I’ve had some great talks with him. I love his energy and fire. He’s very passionate about the game and has ASU going in the right direction.”
USC is another school Ciechanowski is high on.
“I’ve been to USC multiple times and it would be great to have the opportunity to stay home,” Ciechanowski said. “I like the staff a lot, they’re high intensity and have a lot of energy.
“I have a couple of former teammates there and they really like it there a lot. I like coach (Zach) Hanson (OL coach) as well. They haven’t offered but want me to camp with them this summer and I’m definitely interested in that.”
Oregon, Michigan and Penn State are also high on Ciechanowski’s list.
“I think Oregon could be close to offering and I like them a lot,” Ciechanowski said. “I haven’t talked with coach Terry yet but have talked to a few of the other coaches. They sound interested and want to get me up to campus and that’s something I really want to do.
“Michigan and Penn State are two schools I’ve always liked and would be dream offers for me. I’ve always liked their style of play, always tough and physical in the trenches
