SEC, Big 10 support Protect College Sports Act

After a long conversation over what the future of college athletics could look like, it appears two of the top conferences have come together.

The SEC and the Big 10 announced this evening that they are in support of the latest draft of the Protect College Sports Act, which will look to place limits on NIL, revenue sharing, and more.

In a joint statement, both conferences stated:  “The Big Ten Conference and Southeastern Conference support the Protect College Sports Act as currently drafted, following detailed and productive negotiations with Senators Cruz, Cantwell and Schmitt and their respective staffs. We appreciate the substantial work that has gone into this effort.”

This could be a monumental moment for college athletics as lawmakers, fans, and universities alike look to place limits on what has undoubtedly been a free-for-all in terms of name, image, and likeness deals, revenue sharing, and so much more.

The bill was written by senators Ted Cruz and Eric Schmitt and has been a talking point for weeks now as it has been rewritten and revised to its now current form that will head to the Senate floor next week.
