SEC Championship Race Predictions: Every Contender’s Title Game Path

The SEC might be far more unsettled than it appears.

It’s been in a holding pattern for a while. Texas A&M is unbeaten, Alabama doesn’t have a loss in conference play, Georgia lost to Bama, Ole Miss lost to Georgia, all cut and dry.

But it might get weird after this weekend.

Texas only has one loss in the SEC, and it was at Florida. It has yet to deal with the teams in the CFP top six, and least from the SEC, but that’s coming.

How will the SEC race shake out? What will happen, what are the tie-breakers, and what’s the path for each of the teams still in the hunt?

Scroll down for our prediction of every remaining SEC game, along with the three most important games and predicted final standings.

Alabama over Georgia

This might be totally basic. Alabama beats Oklahoma and Auburn, Texas A&M beats South Carolina and Texas, and it’s Aggies vs Crimson Tide for the SEC Championship. Cut and dry.

But what if it’s not that easy? What if Texas has something to say about it?

The call is that the Longhorns lose to Georgia, but pull off the win at home against Texas A&M. Assuming Bama doesn’t hiccup against Oklahoma or Auburn, here’s how the three-way tie-breaker between Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M would work.

Ole Miss is out because of the loss to Georgia. After all of the tie-breakers, it comes down to the winning percentage of each team’s conference opponents. Texas A&M didn’t and won’t play Alabama or Ole Miss, and Georgia did.

First, here are five contenders – Oklahoma and Vanderbilt, realistically, have too much traffic to get through – and here’s the SEC Championship path for each.

Texas A&M Aggies

No sweat. Beat South Carolina, Samford, and win at Texas, and it’s in. Lose to Texas, and there’s a problem.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Beat Oklahoma, beat Auburn, and it’s in. It can still lose to Auburn and be fine as long as it beats Oklahoma.

Georgia Bulldogs

Beat Texas, and it’s in the SEC Championship. Lose, and it’s possible, but between Texas, Texas A&M, and Alabama, two would have to lose twice, and Ole Miss would have to lose once more.

Ole Miss Rebels

Beat Florida and Mississippi State, and then hope for total chaos. Georgia needs to lose to Texas. If that doesn’t happen, then either Texas A&M or Alabama has to lose twice.

Texas Longhorns

After all the drama, and all the underachieving, and all the close calls, and all the Arch rage, if the Longhorns win at Georgia, beat Arkansas, and take out Texas A&M, they’re in the SEC Championship.

1. Texas A&M at Texas, Nov. 29
This either takes on a massive importance on a national scale if Texas can pull off a win this week against Georgia, with tie-breaker scenarios for the SEC going haywire.

Or, Texas A&M wins and life goes on. But, again, this could be even more fascinating depending on …

2. Texas at Georgia, Nov. 15
This is Step One for the Longhorns. If they can pull this off and get by Arkansas, the SEC Championship chase gets thrown for a loop, especially with what could happen in …

3. Oklahoma at Alabama, Nov. 15
The Sooners have been forgotten after losing to Ole Miss a few weeks ago, but they still have just two losses – Texas being the other.

With home games against Missouri and LSU to follow, if the Sooners win in Tuscaloosa, all of a sudden, they’re in the CFP mix, even if they’re likely out of the SEC hunt.
