The 2026 SEC schedule is loaded with high-profile matchups and several games will play a significant role in shaping the race to win a conference title and positioning for the College Football Playoff. With the SEC shifting to nine conference games this year, it really does mean more…high-profile matchups in league play.

Some of the top matchups for ’26 in SEC play include Georgia-Alabama, Texas-LSU, Texas-Oklahoma in Dallas, Georgia-Ole Miss and Oklahoma-Georgia. And of course, we can’t forget about Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford on Sept. 13 with LSU meeting Ole Miss. In non-conference action, Ohio State-Texas, Oklahoma-Michigan and Clemson-LSU headline the top games.

With the 2026 season less than 50 days away, it’s never too early to take a look at the upcoming schedule and project what the top contests and matchups will be this fall.

Which matchups involving SEC teams are the best for each week in the 2026 college football season? Athlon Sports picks the No. 1 contest for all 13 weeks of the regular season:

It’s a close call between Clemson-LSU and Ole Miss-Louisville in Nashville for the No. 1 spot in Week 1. However, it’s tough to pick against coach Lane Kiffin’s LSU debut against a Clemson team aiming to rebound after a disappointing 7-6 record last year.

With Ohio State at Texas and Oklahoma playing at Michigan, Sept. 12 should be an epic Saturday of Big Ten-SEC showdowns.

Oklahoma’s first trip to Athens edges Texas A&M at LSU and Texas at Tennessee for the top matchup for Sept. 26. This should be a standout battle between the Sooners’ elite defense and Georgia’s rushing attack and quarterback Gunner Stockton.

Week 5 doesn’t have an obvious No. 1 pick with Auburn at Tennessee and Florida at Missouri the top choices. Alabama’s road trip to Mississippi State is also intriguing. However, Auburn’s visit to Rocky Top gets the nod, as former Tennessee assistant Alex Golesh has a chance to knock off his former boss Josh Heupel.

Flip a coin between the Red River Rivalry with Texas and Oklahoma meeting for their annual showdown in Dallas, and this clash of SEC titans, Georgia and Alabama. The Bulldogs defeated the Crimson Tide 28-7 in last year’s SEC Championship Game. However, Alabama has won 10 out of the last 12 in this series.
