Week 7 in college football was memorable and momentous. Let's look at the new world of the SEC after all the changes which occurred this past Saturday:
1 – Steve Sarkisian in real trouble at Texas
Steve Sarkisian might coach Texas in 2027 regardless of what happens in the next month and a half, but he has certainly thrown his future into question with a disastrous 2026 season. Keep in mind that Texas has road trips to Missouri, LSU and Texas A&M plus a home game this Saturday against Ole Miss. Texas could lose four or more games, and if that happens, there are no guarantees about Sark's future. He can't receive this much of an investment and offer so little in return. He has done well in the recent past, but he hasn't won a national championship and is showing signs that his program in Austin is losing steam. If Texas does continue to leak oil, 2027 is not an absolute guarantee, and it will be fascinating to watch the drama unfold behind the scenes at the Forty Acres.
2 – Georgia is not an elite team
Georgia is good, and probably still the class of the SEC, but the Dawgs showed against Auburn that they aren't great. Georgia is still struggling to reach the gold standard of the 2021 and 2022 teams which were clearly the best in college football. Georgia being the best team in the SEC is a reminder that the SEC's very best teams don't dominate college football the way they once did. It's a different era, and we continue to be reminded of that each week.
3 – Florida is the weirdest team in the SEC
Blow out Ole Miss, get blown out by Missouri and South Carolina, beat Texas on the road. It's hard to find another four-game squence as crazy as the one the Gators just completed.
4 – Kalen DeBoer on the ropes again at Alabama
The Crimson Tide just aren't tough enough in the trenches under Kalen DeBoer. They have athletes, but they don't have hammers. One wonders when Alabama is going to turn the corner and become the heavyweight program it used to be under Nick Saban.
5 – Ole Miss handles business at home
We will talk about road games in a separate article, but the Rebels have smothered LSU and Missouri at home. They know how to protect their own turf. Oxford has become an extremely difficult place for SEC opponents to play.
