The transfer portal is closed until next offseason for every school except for the two national championship participants (Indiana and Miami). The portal helped the Indiana Hoosiers turn their program from an afterthought to national champions.
For the most part, the elite players in the portal have found new college football homes. Just three of 247Sports’ top-50 transfers remain in the portal and they are expected to find transfer destinations soon.
What teams brought in the most talent via the transfer portal? The SEC is home to the country’s top-three incoming transfer classes and has six of the nation’s top-12 transfer classes. The LSU Tigers (No. 1), Ole Miss Rebels (No. 2) and Texas Longhorns (No. 3) all have top-three transfer classes and should be reloaded for the fall.
The Big Ten has several of the top portal classes as well with Ohio State (No. 4), Penn State (No. 5) and Indiana (No. 7) all securing top-10 classes.
Back in the SEC, there are a few outliers. Most notably, the Georgia Bulldogs secured the least incoming transfers (nine) of any SEC team. Georgia and coach Kirby Smart focused on roster retention again, but we’ll see if that approach pays off in 2026.
