SEC football transfer portal class rankings: Georgia outside top-12

The transfer portal officially closes on Jan. 16, so now is a good time to check in on how the SEC’s incoming transfer classes rank. The SEC is home to five of the nation’s top-seven incoming transfer classes, per 247Sports (as on Jan. 14).

New coach Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers have the No. 1 transfer class in the country. The Tigers will look for a better result than last season, when LSU signed the nation’s top transfer class and went just 7-6. Kiffin and LSU have the No. 1 incoming transfer in the country, former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt.

Along with LSU, Texas (No. 2), Ole Miss (No. 5), Kentucky (No. 6) and Texas A&M (No. 7) all have incoming transfer classes ranked in the top-10 nationally. Of course, the portal is still open for a few more days and players in the portal don’t have a deadline to sign with new schools. Despite this, most of the top transfers have committed to new programs. Just seven of the nation’s top 50 transfers are uncommitted.

Two SEC schools stand out in the transfer rankings. The Georgia Bulldogs (No. 13) and Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 15), who met in the 2025 SEC championship, are bringing in the least transfers of any teams in the SEC. Georgia has an SEC-low seven incoming transfers and Alabama has the second-least with 10 incoming transfers. Georgia and Alabama just aren’t as dominant at talent acquisition anymore.
