SEC Power Rankings: Massive shakeup following shocking Week 6 upsets

In terms of notable results, the Week 6 slate might've been the biggest the conference has seen so far this season.
Overall, the SEC had a total of four ranked teams suffer a loss Saturday in conference action, three of which came against unranked opponents. The lone other ranked team was Alabama, who fell to Georgia in Tuscaloosa in what was not only a Top 10 matchup, but also a battle of SEC unbeaten's.
After a loaded weekend within the conference, here are the latest SEC power rankings coming out of Week 6, which features a number of different teams making moves within the Top 10.
16. Arkansas Razorbacks
- Previous Ranking: No. 16
Arkansas (2-4 overall, 0-3 SEC) nearly pulled off an upset Saturday against Tennessee, but eventually fell, 24-17. Despite only 288 yards of offense, the Razorbacks carried a lead into the fourth quarter, but were outscored in the frame, 14-3.
The Razorbacks travel to Vanderbilt in Week 7.
15. Vanderbilt Commodores
- Previous Ranking: No. 14
Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3) fell at home to Ole Miss, 52-17. The Commodores could not overcome four turnovers, three of which came from quarterback Jared Curtis, as well as a 42-3 deficit going into halftime.
A home game against Arkansas awaits the Commodores next week.
14. Auburn Tigers
- Previous Ranking: No. 13
Auburn (3-2, 1-2) was the first-of-two SEC teams not in action Saturday due to a bye week. The Tigers will travel to Georgia on Saturday for their toughest test yet in the latest edition of the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry.
13. Texas A&M Aggies
- Previous Ranking: No. 10
Texas A&M (3-3, 1-3) suffered a third loss Saturday afternoon at Missouri, 27-6. This was a rough showing for the Aggie offense by compiling only 216 total yards, while the defense also struggled, especially on the ground where they surrendered 252.
A nonconference matchup against The Citadel awaits Texas A&M on Saturday.
12. South Carolina Gamecocks
- Previous Ranking: No. 15
South Carolina (3-3, 1-3) delivered the SEC's most surprising Week 6 result, a dominant 38-19 road win at Florida. A result which snapped a three-game skid, quarterback LaNorris Sellers led the way with five total touchdowns, while the Gamecock defense also forced three turnovers.
The Gamecocks now enter a bye week.
11. Florida Gators
- Previous Ranking: No. 6
Florida (4-2, 2-2) suffered a shocking 38-19 home loss to South Carolina on Saturday. The Gators struggled with a trio of turnovers offensively, while Florida's defense also had problems getting off the field on third downs, allowing South Carolina to convert 10-of-16 attempts.
Having lost two-straight, Florida's toughest test awaits Saturday at Texas.
10. Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Previous Ranking: No. 11
Mississippi State (4-1, 2-1) was the second SEC team not in action Saturday due to a bye week. The Bulldogs will travel to LSU in Week 7.
9. Oklahoma Sooners
- Previous Ranking: No. 12
Oklahoma (3-2, 1-1) picked up their biggest win of the season Saturday by stunning Texas in the Cotton Bowl, 27-24. The Sooners' late comeback was headlined by a pair of fourth quarter interceptions, as well as a game-winning 47-yard field goal from Tate Sandell.
Returning home, Oklahoma will host Kentucky in Week 7.
8. Tennessee Volunteers
- Previous Ranking: No. 8
Tennessee (5-1, 2-1) avoided an upset Saturday in Fayetteville with a 24-17 win over Arkansas. Despite a trio of turnovers, the Volunteers used a 14-3 advantage in the fourth quarter to pull ahead, along with big showings from running back DeSean Bishop and their defense.
The Volunteers host Alabama in Week 7.
7. LSU Tigers
- Previous Ranking: No. 4
LSU (4-2, 1-2) was upset Saturday night in Lexington, 35-34. Falling on the game's final play, the Tigers were hurt by two turnovers, both of which were committed by quarterback Sam Leavitt who also had three touchdowns.
The Tigers return home in Week 7 to host Mississippi State.
6. Kentucky Wildcats
- Previous Ranking: No. 9
Kentucky (5-1, 3-1) was on the positive side of another thrilling finish Saturday night by defeating LSU at home, 35-34. Forcing two turnovers in the win, Kentucky was led by a strong showing from running back CJ Baxter, and won the game on the final play with a two-point conversion.
The Wildcats travel to Oklahoma this Saturday.
5. Ole Miss Rebels
- Previous Ranking: No. 7
Ole Miss (4-1, 2-1) routed Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday afternoon, 52-17. The Rebels, who received four total touchdowns from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, forced four Vanderbilt turnovers in the win, and entered halftime with a commanding 42-3 lead.
Returning home, Ole Miss will host a ranked matchup against Missouri in Week 7.
4. Missouri Tigers
- Previous Ranking: No. 5
Missouri (5-1, 2-1) continues to rack up impressive victories, the latest of which was a 27-6 home win over Texas A&M on Saturday. The Tiger defense impressed by limiting Texas A&M to 216 total yards of total offense, as did running back Jamal Roberts, who racked up 222 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Missouri's toughest test yet awaits in Week 7 via a road trip to Ole Miss.
3. Texas Longhorns
- Previous Ranking: No. 2
Texas (4-1, 1-1) suffered their first loss of the season Saturday as the Longhorns were upset by Oklahoma, 27-24. Outscored in the second half, 20-7, Texas could not overcome a pair of fourth quarter Arch Manning interceptions, both of which ended up being costly.
The Longhorns will return home Saturday for a showdown against Florida.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide
- Previous Ranking: No. 3
Alabama (5-1, 3-1) suffered their first loss of the season late Saturday night to Georgia at home, 20-17. Despite a solid showing from Keelon Russell, the Crimson Tide struggled at times on third down, eventually dropping the back-and-forth contest.
The Crimson Tide return to action Saturday at Tennessee for "The Third Saturday in October."
1. Georgia Bulldogs
- Previous Ranking: No. 1
Georgia (6-0, 4-0) remains in the top spot following a 20-17 road win at Alabama. The Bulldogs outscored Alabama in the second half, 10-3, after trailing at halftime, and received a strong showing from Gunner Stockton and Dwight Phillips Jr..
Next up is a rivalry game against Auburn this Saturday.
