Ohio State five-star DL Marcus Fakatou told it like it is with how things are in Columbus. Georgia and Texas will like what the player they missed out on had to say about the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State Buckeyes started the week with a substantial recruiting win by landing 2027 five-star DL Marcus Fakatou. It was a huge addition to the class for the Buckeyes, and it was even more important because they beat out multiple top-end programs.

Fakatou chose the Buckeyes over schools like Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame, and Oregon. He canceled visits to Notre Dame and Oregon before his decision was made official because he already knew where he was going

Getting a commitment from Fakatou marked another key addition for Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson. Ohio State’s defensive line is in great shape going forward.

Marcus Fakatou opening up on his commitment choice sheds some light in Columbus

Ohio State has nice football facilities in Columbus in terms of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, but it’s not up to par with some major programs. Ohio State is soon undergoing massive renovations to get up to par with some of the best facilities in the country, but they’re not there yet. Fakatou recently admitted the facilities aren’t the selling point in Columbus.

“When I went to Ohio State, it really wasn’t all that,” Fakatou said via The Austin & Birm Show. “They definitely, and this is not to knock them or anything, but they didn’t have the fanciest facility like Michigan or Texas or Georgia. But it’s just something about them. That culture and everything just played a big role in it for me.”

Fakatou said it himself, it’s the culture and everything else that Ohio State can use as a selling point. The Buckeyes have proven development and have shown the ability to get players to the NFL better than any other program in the country the last few years. Those things stand out more than shiny facilities that aren’t going to matter in the big picture. Ohio State is still doing work to get up to par in those areas, but it doesn’t have to be a focal point for them.

Ohio State sees the five-star Sierra Canyon (CA) standout as a versatile defensive lineman who can rush from the inside or out. Fakatou has played EDGE in high school and is currently weighing around 265 pounds after dropping some weight. Ohio State will likely get him around 275 pounds or so.

Fakatou is in the fold and his commitment seems rock solid to Ohio State. So coming out and saying his opinion on the facilities shouldn’t be seen as a negative, but it’s notable at the very least.
