The New York State football playoffs, put on by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, are here and all five Section 1 champions from the Lower Hudson Valley – Mamaroneck, Rye, Sleepy Hollow, Bronxville and Tuckahoe – have games Nov. 21 and 22.

Here’s a look visually at each team and what they’ve done.

Mamaroneck, Section 1 Class AA football champion

Mamaroneck defeated John Jay-East Fishkill 9-0 on Nov. 15 to win its first ever Section 1 championship in a game played at Mahopac High School.

Mamaroneck quarterback Henry Kelly scored the game’s only touchdown on a short run and was 3 of 10 passes for 41 yards and carried 14 times for 51 yards.

Rye, Section 1 Class A football champion

Rye defeated Somers 40-17 on Nov. 14 at Mahopac High School to win the Section 1 Class A football title and end Somers’ run of four consecutive Section 1 titles.

Rye quarterback Carson Miller completed 14 of 20 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for 78 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries, and on the other side of the ball the Harvard lacrosse commit intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.

Sleepy Hollow, Section 1 Class B champion

Sleepy Hollow defeated Westlake 27-14 on Nov. 15 to win the Section 1 Class B championship at Mahopac High School, its first sectional title since 1978.

Sleepy Hollow’s Brayden Richardson broke the game open with a 57-yard, ankle-breaking touchdown run in the fourth quarter and wound up with 155 yards on 17 carries. Richardson also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Bronxville, Section 1 Class C football champion

Bronxville defeated Dobbs Ferry 56-6 on Nov. 15 to win the Section 1 Class C football championship at Mahopac High School.

Thomas Freeman recovered a fumble and set up the first Bronxville touchdown. He blocked a punt on the following Dobbs Ferry possession, recovered the ball and got tackled as he crossed the goal line for a touchdown.

Tuckahoe, Section 1 Class D champion

Tuckahoe defeated Haldane 42-0 for the Section 1 Class D football championship on Nov. 14 at Mahopac High School.

Tuckahoe’s Declan Connolly had 134 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries.
