The American Conference football awards are out, and Memphis football has plenty of names on the list.

Receiver Cortez Braham, right tackle Travis Burke, linebacker Sam Brumfield, defensive lineman William Whitlow Jr. and running back Sutton Smith were named first team all-conference. Smith made it as a return specialist.

Cornerback Omarion Cooper made second team, while Smith (as a running back) defensive lineman Pooda Walker and kicker Gianni Spetic made third team.

Last season, Memphis had seven players on the all-conference first team.

Braham had 63 catches for 889 yards and eight touchdowns and was Memphis’ go-to receiver throughout most of the season. Brumfield led the Tigers in tackles with 106. Whitlow was named first team all-conference for the second straight season. Smith returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

North Texas quarterback Drew Mestemaker won offensive player of the year, Navy defensive tackle Landon Robinson won defensive player of the year and North Texas coach Eric Morris won coach of the year.

The Tigers (8-4, 4-4 American Conference) were 8-1 before losing their final three games of the season. Coach Ryan Silverfield left for Arkansas on Nov. 30, and a search is underway for his replacement.

Of Memphis’ all-conference honorees, Smith and Spetic are the only ones who have eligibility remaining.
