GIBRALTAR – Gibraltar Carlson took a 14-0 halftime lead on a pair of touchdown runs by Izaiah Wright and cruised to its third consecutive district championship.
The Marauders improved to 11-0 and advanced to a Division 2 regional final against South Lyon or Dexter.
“Hard-fought victory by our football team tonight,” Carlson coach Jason Gendron said. “Proud of our coaches and players for sticking to the game plan and battling through adversity. Our defense was outstanding and consistent all night, giving the offense opportunities to capitalize.
Bedford finishes with a 5-6 record.
“Credit to Bedford for a hard-fought battle,” Gendron said. “They’re certainly a much better team than their record shows.”
Jefferson 34, Summit Academy 21
Luke Beaudrie ran for four touchdowns and threw a scoring pass to Bret Gennoe as the Bears (10-1) reached double digits for wins for the first time since 1992 when they finished 11-2 and moved on in the Division 5 playoffs.
“I am so happy for our coaches, the team and the program,” Jefferson coach Rob Beaudrie said.
Jefferson led 20-0 at the half and never allowed Summit to get closer than two scores the rest of the night.
Beaudrie’s 15-yard TD pass to Gennoe opened the scoring then the junior quarterback ran 25, 24, 80 and 80 yards for scores. He finished with 303 rushing yards on 20 carries.
Drake Jones had 130 yards on the ground on 22 attempts.
Defensive backs Trey Oldenburg and Hunter Barton led a strong defense effort against a passing offense.
Jefferson gets to play its regional championship game at home next week after Michigan Center knocked off Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.
Ida 28, Ecorse 6
ECORSE – Junior Justin Crozier ran for 122 yards and scored on runs of 13 and 9 yards in the first half to lead Ida to a district championship in Division 6.

Clinton 22, SMCC 14
MONROE – St. Mary Catholic Central opened the season with a 42-6 romp over Clinton on Aug. 29 at Adrian College.
The rematch was a much different story in a Division 7 district final.
SMCC tried to mount a comeback as Cole Reinhardt scored on a 5-yard pass from Drew Ferreira with 5:02 remaining.
The Falcons recovered an onside kick after that touchdown, but a costly penalty killed that drive and Clinton was able to run out the clock.
