Seedy K’s Pigskin Palaver: House of Cards & Much Mo’

Ah yes, October; the pigskin campaign is morphing more fully developed.

And, fully enveloping.

This week, there’s a football game on every single night. Not just the more traditional Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.

Because Draft Kings and Fan Duel and The World Wide Leader need content, we get Southern Miss and Troy on Tuesday, two more Wednesday, and a quartet on Thursday.

Since the majority of my readership is/ are fans of Louisville football, let’s start with a gander at national perspective.

House of Cards. At theathletic.com, they do a weekly ranking of all 138 DI teams.

What school might you take a guess took the biggest tumble down the totem pole after the weekend’s results?

Falling from #23 to #54, the University of Louisville Cardinals.

There’s a descriptor for that. Precipitous Decline.

The Cards are now mired in Rodney Dangerfield territory.

Talk about getting no respect, getta load of this.

Each week at espn.com, two of their pigskin scribes project who will play in each of the bowl games.

One has the Cards in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against UTSA. Spicy.

The other guy? Well, he doesn’t have the Cards projected for any postseason game.

This, despite the fact that a ranking of the country’s best first time starters places Lincoln Kienholz at #4.

First Q Pink Slip. Peripatetic Jim Mora is now in Fort Collins, coaching Colorado State. Which is in the PAC 12 in case you weren’t paying attention. After winning their first two, the Rams surrendered 41 when falling to Brigham Young. During their next game when they surrendered 59 in an L to Texas San Antonio, Mora expressed his displeasure on the sideline with DC Tyson Summers.

When Summers’ “defenders” gave up 14 quick points early Saturday against Oregon State, he was relieved of his duties. With extreme prejudice. As in immediately in the opening stanza. After which he was no longer spotted on the sidelines. Or in his former office.

Illinois also pinkslipped their DC. But at least waited until after falling at home to Purdue.

Speaking of Coordinators . . . don’t ever believe they don’t care more at Ohio State.

Which has two former NFL head coaches wearing headsets.

DC Matt Patricia. OC Arthur Smith.

Harvard’s Walk Off. Down three to Colgate with four seconds left, the Crimson were going to try to knot it with a 50+ yard FG. But, guilty of a false start and loss of 5 yards, they needed to go for a home run.

The last chance Hail Mary fell five yards short of the endzone, but into the arms of a receiver, who flipped it back to a mate, who scooted into the endzone for a game winning Hail Mary Hook & Ladder.

All of which, it is reported, they practice every week, just in case.

Win the Battle, Jeopardize the War. Along with UCLA, Pitt is one of two most surprising still undefeated P4 schools. Now ranked, the Panthers upset Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

But unfortunately lost wunderkind QB Matt Heintschel for the duration to an ACL.

New Stadium, New Cheer? Northwestern’s new Ryan Field is by any account boffo.

Including a Standing Only Student Section.

After playing IU tough last time out, the no longer Mild- Wildcats battered Penn State in the new digs’ debut Friday.

At 3-1, it seems a new era for the former Big Ten tackling dummy. Especially with Chip Kelly as OC.

Does it mean they’ll give up the self deprecating but oh so snarky cheer?

“That’s all right, That’s OK, You’ll come to work for us some day.”

Kamario, meet Keelon. Cowbell State’s big beatdown at the hands of the Crimson Tide means we need a new Flavor of the Month.

Feel free to submit your suggestions below.

Think Pink. Decades ago, Iowa coach Hayden Fry had the visitors locker room painted pink.

“It was the only paint we had,” said he.

Guess which visiting coaches, manly men for sure, were so irate they had staff paper the walls in a neutral color?

Bo Schembechler. Whose favored Wolverines fell anyway in ’84, 26 zed.

And his equally insufferable successor several times removed, Jim Harbaugh.

Blood on the Little Brown Jug. The Minnesota Golden Gophers beat Michigan at home for the first time since 1977.

Out.
