Florida State kicked off its first game of the season against New Mexico State at home for Week Zero of college football, and the Seminoles' offense shined in a 34-17 victory. 

The Passing Game

The Noles' passing game did well against the Aggies, totaling 202 yards. It was the first game starting for FSU for transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels, a former Auburn Tiger and Stanford Cardinal.  Daniels went 17 of 27 passing for 202 yards, a touchdown and an interception. 

His passing touchdown was a four-yard throw to running back Eric Singleton Jr. when a play broke down near the goal line. Singleton started in pass protection, then he flared out in front of the linebackers to find an opening in the defense, and Daniels dumped the ball off for the score. 

Daniels made a lot of great throws in the contest, one of which was a corner route to Duce Robinson on 2nd and 10 with about 7:42 left in the second quarter. Daniels got the ball between the cornerback and safety accurately. Some throws were not on target and were potential interceptions, but Daniels had a good first one at Doak Campbell. 

The wide receiver unit did well also. Seven different players caught a pass on offense. Although Singleton is a running back, he did lead the team in receiving with 54 yards and a touchdown. The second-leading receiver was Micahi Danzy, who had four catches for 51 yards. Danzy was able to work in the middle of the field. Duce Robinson did have three catches for 50 yards, and a lot of receptions were big-play ones downfield. Robinson was named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List ahead of the season. 

Plays did break down on offense, and Daniels did have to improvise quite a bit, running out of the pocket, with the pass protection failing at times. He was also sacked. 

The Running Game

The Seminoles' running game was the main draw of their offense in game one. They were able to get 217 yards on the ground, which led both teams. Seminoles running back Ousmane Kromah had 14 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown was for a yard in the fourth quarter, which put the score at 34-17 with their extra point kick. Running back Singleton Jr. and Quintrevion Wisner contributed as well, with Singleton rushing for 42 yards and a score and Wisner getting 34 yards on four carries. 

Daniels ran as well, especially on scrambles, rushing for 30 yards and a touchdown. FSU's rushing attack helped them have more time of possession at 31:32. They scored three total touchdowns on the ground. 

The Seminoles' offense excelled at screens, throws in the middle of the field and on the outside, while the run game did most of the heavy lifting, keeping possession of the ball. 

Florida State is now 1-0 and they will take on SMU next on September 7th.
