The last week of the regular season of NC high school football put the final touches on 2025-26 with league titles decided and playoff fates determined as seedings are set to be announced Sunday, Nov. 2.

Seventy-First claimed the Eastern Sandhills 5A/6A Conference inaugural football championship outright, the Falcons’ fifth straight league title, with a 46-22 home win against South View on Friday.

The Tigers were within 8 points in the fourth quarter of a hard-fought battle for a share of the ESC crown, but a 41-yard catch-and-run touchdown from R’maunni Watson to Shon Pone followed by a Jayson Franklin conversion run closed the door on South View.

The Tigers held the talented two-time reigning state runner-up to just 90 yards of offense in the first half as they went to the break trailing 14-6 after a Cristian Simmons-led drive finished with the junior punching it in from inside the 1 on fourth down.

Despite the success on defense, South View gave up two turnovers — a fumble and a pick — that stifled the offense.

Seventy-First found its footing after the break as Franklin ran for more than 100 yards in the third quarter alone, scoring on fourth-and-4 from the 45 followed by a Pone conversion run to put the Falcons up 22-6; and breaking loose for 13- and 24-yard runs in a drive capped by Watson’s 4-yard run with a Franklin conversion run.

Simmons also ran hard with his eighth straight game of 100-plus rushing yards. He had 112 against the Falcons and set up Morio Patterson’s 13-yard TD catch from Jamal Brown with a long run to cut the Tigers’ deficit to 22-14 in the third.

After Watson’s second touchdown run, South View responded with a 10-play, 69-yard drive finished off with another Simmons TD plunge and a Simmons conversion catch to get the Tigers within 30-22 with 8:58 remaining in the game.

But Seventy-First didn’t falter.

The Falcons marched downfield and scored on a jaw-dropping 41-yard catch-and-run from Watson to Pone, followed by a Franklin conversion run. They added another score on Mari Polk’s 33-yard TD catch from Watson with less than a minute remaining.

Jacob Moore steers Terry Sanford to win over Gray’s Creek

Terry Sanford senior quarterback Jacob Moore threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for 112 yards and two more TDs in a 51-36 win at Gray’s Creek.

The Tri-County Conference’s most prolific offense averages 42.7 points per game, and Moore’s total yards are top five in the state and No. 1 in Class 6A.

The Bulldogs (7-3, 3-2) have played their way into home-field advantage with an NCHSAA RPI ranking of No. 20, just shy of earning a first-round bye in state playoffs.

The first of Moore’s 5 TDs came on a 31-yard pass to Gaven Kraut, who finished with 70 yards on 5 catches. Moore then ran into the end zone from 3 yards out and threw a 21-yarder to Izaiah Williams to put the Bulldogs up 21-0.

Bears quarterback KJ Jackson, who completed 16 of 22 passes for 214 yards with no interceptions, ran it in from a yard out for Gray’s Creek’s first score. Sebastian O’Keefe answered for Terry Sanford with a 4-yard touchdown run but the Bears closed the half with Jackson’s 22-yard TD pass to Dequan Anthony. When they scored in the third on Ezekiel Reed’s 5-yard run, the Bears were within a touchdown at 28-21.

Terry Sanford would respond with 16 unanswered points on a 1-yard Moore TD run, a Latrell Lynch safety and a 50-yard pass from Moore to O’Keefe to stretch the lead to 44-21.

Alphonso Myers and Jackson added a pair of 5-yard TD runs for Gray’s Creek and Isaiah Washington had a touchdown run for Terry Sanford.

Britt boosts playoff resume

Jack Britt scored 30 unanswered points while holding Hoke County scoreless in the second half of a 30-10 win.

Now ranked inside the NCHSAA RPI top 16, the Bucs (6-4) might have played their way into a first-round bye. We’ll find out Sunday when playoff seedings are announced.

Westover, E.E. Smith battle for playoff spot

Westover won in a 49-0 romp over E.E. Smith in their regular-season closer, and while both teams enter Week 11 on the state playoff bubble, they both still might make it in.

Westover (3-7) jumped from No. 45 to No 40 in the NCHSAA 6A RPI after the win, securely in the bracket. The Golden Bulls (3-7) dropped two spots to No. 46, which should sill land them in the playoff field, a remarkable accomplishment for such a tragic season.

Trinity Christian wins 3rd straight Big East championship

Trinity Christian defeated Harrells Christian 29-20 to win the NCISAA Big East Conference title for the third year in a row.

The Crusaders (7-2) were tied at 14 in the fourth quarter when an Amari Covington interception set up Anthony Farrior’s touchdown catch from Bralynn Howard.

Trinity made another defensive stance, forcing a turnover on downs, and then Amir Jackson’s long run set up Jaden Clifton’s TD run to seal the win.
