COLUMBIA — South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer will coach the Gamecocks in 2026, athletic director Jeremiah Donati confirmed to The Greenville News on Nov. 26.

The Gamecocks (4-7) are at risk of their worst season under Beamer who is currently 33–29 overall. If they beat Clemson on Nov. 29 (noon ET, SEC Network), Beamer will be tied with his only losing season, which was 5-7 in 2023. The Gamecocks went 1-7 in SEC play this year with their only win against Kentucky on Sept. 27.

Now in his fifth season, Beamer is 2-2 against the Tigers heading into the game but has never won in Columbia, the site of this year’s Palmetto Bowl. The road team is 4-0 since Beamer’s arrival.

Shane Beamer will remain at South Carolina in 2026

Beamer was hired in December 2020 and is closing out on his fifth full season with the Gamecocks.

He was coming off his best season in 2024 where South Carolina went 9-3 in the regular season, the first nine-win season since 2017. Under Beamer, South Carolina’s made it to three bowl games in five years and has had three seasons with seven or more wins.

Beamer fired two assistants before the season ended, letting go of offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley on Oct. 12 then firing offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Shula on Nov. 2.

Wide receiver coach Mike Furrey is calling plays and is 1-1 heading into the Clemson game. Beamer will hire both a new offensive coordinator and line coach after the season.

This is Beamer’s first season with Donati, who was hired to replace athletic director Ray Tanner in December of 2024 and started in the position in January of 2025.

Shane Beamer contract

South Carolina is scheduled to pay Beamer $8,150,000 for the 2025 season which ranks No. 9 in the Southeastern Conference. Beamer is the No. 20 highest-paid coach in college football, according to USA TODAY’s 2025 compensation survey.

South Carolina’s board of trustees approved the new contract on Jan. 24, 2025, which runs through Dec. 31, 2030.

Before the raise, Beamer was one of the lowest-paid coaches in the Southeastern Conference, making an annual salary of $6,401,996 which ranked 14th in the new 16-team SEC.

How much is Shane Beamer’s buyout at South Carolina in 2025?

As of Dec. 1, 2025, if the school fires Beamer without cause, he would be set to receive $27,903,958, which ranks as the No. 24 most expensive buyout out of the 105 USA TODAY’s could review and No. 10 in the Southeastern Conference.
