The Wisconsin Badgers’ newest athletic director has been making nonstop media appearances since returning to his home state.
Shawn Eichorst is looking to prove that he’s grown and learned a lot since he was fired at Nebraska nearly 10 years ago.
In that time, he’s been honing his craft at the University of Texas, but now, it’s time to see what Eichorst is all about as he’s immediately thrown into a struggling football program.
“I’ve talked to Luke [Fickell] a couple of times since it became official,” Eichorst said on ESPN Radio. “I’m really excited to get over and spend some more time with Luke.”
Eichorst said they mostly talked about family, not football, as he tried to build a relationship with the Badgers‘ underachieving head coach.
“I haven’t really had a chance to know or work with Luke up to this point. My deal is I’m just going to immerse myself into everything they’re doing over there,” Eichorst added.
He said he’s going to “listen” and “learn,” and “no one is going to be a bigger supporter than me, relative to what he’s got going on.”
Wisconsin’s newest athletic director was put on blast for firing longtime Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini. For the time being, it seems like Fickell’s seat is safe, and the 52-year-old won’t be going anywhere.
