The Wisconsin Badgers finalized the hire of Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst last week, introducing him at a press conference on Tuesday as they head into their next chapter after Chris McIntosh.
Eichorst, a Wisconsin native, had worked at the school from 2006-11 before Athletic Director stints at Miami and Nebraska, and had most recently been at Texas as the Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Operating Officer.
Now, with a strong background and good experience at one of the top college programs in the country, he gets another shot at being an Athletic Director, and it comes at a crucial time for Wisconsin.
The Badgers have been trying to revamp the football program, which has taken a disappointing turn over the last three years under Luke Fickell, but seems to be trending upwards after some more financial investment this offseason. Currently, the Badgers are slightly favored to hit their 6.5-game win total on FanDuel Sportsbook, which would be their best result under Luke Fickell so far.
Additionally, Greg Gard and the basketball program have done some great work over the last few years, while not being as competitive financially as some of the top programs in the country, or even in the Big Ten.
This week, we asked in our weekly Reacts poll about the Eichorst hire, and the results were quite positive.
The highest amount of the vote went to a ‘B’ grade, with 41 percent sharing that perspective. Another 15 percent of the vote graded the hire an ‘A’, while 27 percent of the vote graded it a ‘C’.
Eichorst has a lot to prove, and a big part of that will come with how he handles the football program during and after this season. But it seems the initial reviews from fans are more positive on the hire.
